Oklahoma clinicals for Sacred Heart University NP students
Sacred Heart University's online FNP and PMHNP both carry a "Yes" for Oklahoma as of September 2026. Oklahoma lets an RN enrolled in an APRN program from another state train there with no separate Board permission, as long as three conditions hold, and it rewards some precepting clinicians with a state income tax credit.

Three conditions in OAC 485:10-5-12(c)
Oklahoma's code splits visiting programs in two. One that prepares students for a first license must ask the Oklahoma Board of Nursing ahead of time. Yours is the other kind, an APRN program enrolling RNs, and it needs no permission when all three of these hold:
- your RN license lets you practice in Oklahoma and carries no encumbrance
- whoever from the program oversees your clinical work holds an unencumbered Oklahoma license that matches or exceeds the level taught
- the program meets what the Board expects of APRN education

Condition two is the one Oklahoma students miss: it concerns the Sacred Heart faculty member over your clinicals, not your preceptor.

6,240 supervised hours and no Schedule II
AANP rates Oklahoma restricted. For the first 6,240 hours of prescribing, an Oklahoma NP must document a supervising physician in writing, and Schedule II drugs sit outside an Oklahoma NP's authority altogether. Sacred Heart's FNP list already includes those physicians, alongside PAs and APRNs, and PMHNP hours can go to a psychiatric NP or a psychiatrist with board certification; see who can precept.
A tax credit for precepting, and the open question
HB 3351 (2024) created Oklahoma's preceptor tax credit. A claimant must be an MD, DO, PA or APRN holding an Oklahoma license, delivering primary care in Oklahoma and precepting learners in APRN, PA or medical training. Credit is counted per rotation of 160 aggregate hours, rises after the third, caps at ten rotations a year and goes first come, first served until funding runs dry. Oklahoma's Health Care Workforce Training Commission runs it and lists 2026 applications as open; the state Tax Commission adds that the credit is not refundable, rolls forward up to five years and applies from tax year 2026 until 2035.
One gap remains in our research: whether a student enrolled out of state, as you are, counts. Present the credit to a preceptor as a question for the Commission.
Oklahoma City, Tulsa and the smaller metros
Oklahoma City's metro (roughly 1,513,000 in the 2025 Census estimates) and Tulsa's (roughly 1,069,000) hold most of the state, while Lawton and Enid are each under 130,000. Students in those markets ask at INTEGRIS Health; at Saint Francis Health System; at OU Health, the academic health system tied to the University of Oklahoma; at Hillcrest HealthCare System; and at SSM Health St. Anthony. None is a promised Sacred Heart site, and when a partnering system employs the preceptor, its approval lands first.
Your license, then our search
Oklahoma began issuing multistate licenses on January 19, 2018. An Oklahoma resident holding one meets Sacred Heart's call for an active, unencumbered license in the clinical state. Is there an Oklahoma Board permission step for Sacred Heart's NP program?
Not for an APRN program enrolling RNs, provided the three conditions in 485:10-5-12(c) are met: your unencumbered RN license valid in Oklahoma; an Oklahoma license, matching or exceeding the level taught, for the faculty member overseeing your clinicals; and a program meeting the Board's APRN education standards. Advance permission is for first-license programs.
Would precepting me earn my Oklahoma preceptor the state credit?
Only the Commission can say. The credit targets primary care clinicians licensed in Oklahoma who teach APRN, PA or medical learners, measured in rotations of 160 hours, until funds are exhausted. Our research is silent on students of out-of-state programs, so point your preceptor to the Commission for a ruling.
What does the Yes* beside Oklahoma mean?
It sits on the campus ASN and BSN (RN licensure), not the online NP tracks; Sacred Heart adds physics or clinical-hour notes to a few states' RN entries, Oklahoma among them. The online FNP and PMHNP entry for Oklahoma is a plain Yes.
Where do Sacred Heart PMHNP students in Oklahoma find under-18 hours?
NU 572 needs at least 100 of its 180 hours with patients under 18. Look for a PMHNP or a psychiatry board-certified physician whose panel includes children and adolescents, in any Oklahoma setting willing to sign an affiliation agreement with Sacred Heart. Details: NU 572.
