What to put in your message
A short message with the right details lets your placement advisor begin the search on the first read. The form collects your name, program, clinical start and city; the message box is where everything else goes.
Include these if you have them
- Your Sacred Heart program and the
NUcourse number you need a preceptor for - Your deadline: week 10 of the current course for online FNP, the Clinical Placement Team's published date for PMHNP, CNL, NE or NMEL, or nine months ahead for RN-BSN
- The city and state you want to train from
- Every state where you hold an active RN license, plus any APRN license if you are in a post-master's program
- How many clinical hours you still need in the course
- Names of practices or clinicians you have contacted already, and whether any of them employs you
How each detail shapes the search
Each item in your message answers a question your placement advisor would otherwise have to ask, which saves a round of back-and-forth before the search can begin.

What happens after you send it
Your message reaches the placement desk directly, and a placement advisor answers by email, call or text using the details you give. The first reply normally clears up anything the search still needs to know, then sets out a plan for your course and a written quote. Nothing goes ahead until you decide it should, and you can ask questions about the plan or the quote before you do.
Reply times depend on how many requests are open and how much your message already covers, so a complete message is the surest route to a useful first answer. If your deadline is close, say so in the opening line; the urgent placement guide explains what can still be done on a short timeline.
Chat, WhatsApp and what to keep out of messages
Not ready for a form? The chat window, open on every page of this site, reaches the same placement desk and suits a quick question about a course, a state or your timing. For messaging on your phone, the WhatsApp button on the site opens a conversation with the desk, with a short introduction already typed for you. Whichever route you start with, your placement advisor can carry the conversation into email later, so nothing you have said needs repeating. Keep your SHU email handy as well, since Sacred Heart sends its own clinical messages there.
Share only what a first reply needs. Health records, background check reports and copies of licenses can wait until a particular placement calls for them. The privacy policy explains how contact details are handled.
Preceptors and clinical sites
Clinicians open to teaching a Sacred Heart student reach us through the very same form: the last option in its program menu is the one for preceptors. Add your specialty, where you practice and the semesters you could host a student, and your contact at the desk replies with the course, dates and hours involved before anything is arranged.
Practice managers and site staff who handle contracts are welcome to write too, for example to confirm whether a site already holds an affiliation agreement with Sacred Heart University or to ask what the Contract Request Form will need from them. Questions Sacred Heart students ask
Do I need my exact deadline before I get in touch?
No. Send your program and course and your placement advisor helps you pin the date down. Online FNP placements are due by week 10 of the course before the clinical course; other tracks follow dates published by Sacred Heart's Clinical Placement Team, which your academic advisor or your Blackboard clinical requirements organization can confirm.
Can I reach out before my first clinical course?
Yes, and early contact helps. Sacred Heart's MSN guide says a new site's affiliation agreement can take up to nine months, so a first message sent during the courses ahead of your first clinical course gives the search the most room to find the best fit.
What if I do not know my course number yet?
Pick the "Not sure yet" option under program, then add your program name and start term in the message box. Your plan of study, which Sacred Heart records in eSTAR with your advisor, shows the order of your courses, and your placement advisor can work from that.
How do I update a request I already sent?
Reply to the email or text thread from your placement advisor, or open the chat and give your name and program. A new deadline, a new city or hours already completed all reshape the search, so pass changes on as soon as you know them.
