E*Value at Sacred Heart: logs, agreements and evaluations

One system for the whole clinical record

Sacred Heart's student guides name E*Value as the tracking platform and name no other; Typhon, Exxat and ACEMAPP do not appear in the Sacred Heart sources reviewed for this guide. Your Clinical Placement Coordinator sends the E*Value onboarding, and from then on the system holds the record of each rotation: who supervised you, where, for how many hours, and how each of you judged the experience.

Preceptors work in it too. When a clinician offers to precept, Sacred Heart's inquiry form checks their comfort with the software used to complete student evaluations, and the NP Preceptor Orientation takes preceptors through the midterm and final evaluations in E*Value.

Clinical hours belong in E*Value only once you are cleared: after the Cleared for Clinical email, at the approved site, with the approved preceptor. The Cleared for Clinical page covers that email.

Clinical logs and case logs

Logs are your record of hours, and hours decide part of whether a clinical course is passed: the guide pairs a course grade of at least 80 with every clinical competency met and the full count of required hours. Log each clinical day while it is fresh, against the site and preceptor approved for that course.

Case logs, required of MSN FNP and certificate students, show the patients behind the hours, which is how a course's population becomes visible. NU 606 centers on children from birth through adolescence and NU 607 on women's health. On the PMHNP side, NU 572 sets aside at least 100 of its 180 hours for patients under 18, so keep that count clear as you log. The clinical hours overview has every course's total.

DNP students log as well. FNP/DNP students keep practice hour logs, and post-master's DNP students record their project implementation hours in E*Value toward the 1,000-hour minimum each DNP program sets; see the DNP 1,000-hour page.

Evaluations from midterm to final

Evaluations follow a fixed order. At midterm, per the NP Preceptor Orientation, "the student will complete a self-evaluation in EValue which will get pushed to the preceptor for completion." The preceptor's part starts when yours is done, so a late self-evaluation holds up both of you.

At the end of the course, the preceptor summarizes your performance on the preceptor evaluation form, and you evaluate the site and the preceptor. Along the way, preceptors are asked for feedback every week, a review and co-signature on what you document in the clinical record, and a Student Evaluation Form sent to your Clinical Faculty Advisor when requested.

The DNP programs add their own layers. FNP/DNP students have clinical advisor site visits with SOAP note feedback, and DNP practice mentors evaluate you twice, once at the proposal presentation and once at the final one, then fill in a Practice Mentor Evaluation Form during NU 810 and again in NU 820.

Preceptors ready for E*Value from day one

A preceptor new to E*Value can be an excellent fit, as long as the evaluations happen on time. When we match you, we confirm the preceptor is comfortable completing evaluations online and brief them on the midterm and final steps before your first day, so their part of the record keeps pace with yours.

We find that preceptor in your community, gather the CV, license and board certification approval needs, and check in with you as the course runs. If a preceptor leaves mid-course, we start the replacement search at once so your logging can resume after re-clearance.
