Nevada NP clinicals for Sacred Heart University students
Sacred Heart University's September 2026 disclosures mark Nevada "Yes" for FNP and PMHNP, but Nevada asks more than most Yes states. Nevada is not a compact state, its Board restricts clinical instruction by online programs, and three of the states on its borders are "No" states on Sacred Heart's table.

Nevada in Sacred Heart's disclosures
All five NP licensure programs meet Nevada's educational requirements according to Sacred Heart's September 2026 table, and Sacred Heart offers them across state lines as an NC-SARA member, a status held since January 11, 2017. The catalog assigns verification to the student, so confirm Nevada's row again before you enroll or relocate.

What NAC 632.703 asks of online programs
Nevada regulates distance programs tightly. NAC 632.703 covers any school that delivers part of its program in the state: such a school files the Board's report form with evidence of accreditation or approval, shows it complies with chapter 632 of Nevada's statutes and code, and keeps sending annual school reports. When a program reaches students online or through another nontraditional format, the Board must approve before any clinical teaching happens in Nevada, and whoever teaches there needs a Nevada license. Nothing in the text separates first-license programs from graduate ones.
As of its September 1, 2026 update, the Board's list of other states' schools approved for Nevada clinicals alone holds only ADN and BSN programs that prepare new RNs. Whether the rule reaches graduate NP education remains open in the research, so settle it with the MSN Online NP Programs Clinical Coordinator before choosing a Nevada site.
Raise the Nevada question when you first name a site, not after your preceptor has already said yes.
A Nevada license, whatever else you hold
Nevada stays outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, with nothing pending on the compact map. A Board practice decision is blunt about it: caring for patients who are in Nevada requires a Nevada license, and it names nursing education with direct patient contact among the covered activities. A multistate license issued by Arizona, Utah or any other member state does not carry into a Nevada clinic.
Apply for your Nevada RN license well ahead of the first clinical course and upload it to the Health Account, because Sacred Heart wants an active, unencumbered license from the state that hosts your clinicals. Timing tips are in our RN license guide.
The Board's ground rules for preceptors
The Board spelled out precepted clinicals in a 2005 practice decision. Four points stand out: school faculty stay in charge of every student experience; no preceptor oversees more than two students simultaneously, and the preceptor must be physically present; faculty can be reached by telephone; and preceptors receive an orientation plus written objectives from the school. Sacred Heart already supplies that last item through its NP preceptor orientation and the course details posted for preceptors online.
AANP lists Nevada as full practice, with one prescribing limit: during an NP's first two years or 2,000 clinical hours, Schedule II drugs need a physician-approved protocol. Sacred Heart's own preceptor criteria are on our requirements page.
Las Vegas, Reno and the state lines
Roughly 2.4 million people live around Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas. Southern Nevada students tend to ask at Sunrise Health System (HCA Healthcare), Dignity Health's Henderson and Las Vegas hospitals, UMC, the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, and The Valley Health System. Up north, the Reno metro counts around 579,000 people and Carson City around 59,000, with Renown Health on the list. Consider every one a lead to ask, not a Sacred Heart site.
Before looking across a border, note that California, Oregon and Arizona are "No" on Sacred Heart's FNP and PMHNP table, while Utah and Idaho read "Yes".

Can my Nevada preceptor take another student alongside me?
Up to a point. Nevada's 2005 practice decision lets one preceptor oversee two students simultaneously, no more, with the preceptor present on site. When a preceptor already teaches for a Nevada school, find out whose clinical days overlap with yours before submitting the Contract Request Form.
Is Sacred Heart on Nevada's list of approved out-of-state programs?
Nevada's September 2026 roster of out-of-state schools cleared for clinical-only instruction holds ADN and BSN programs that prepare new RNs. How the Board's rule treats graduate NP programs is unresolved in our research. Ask Sacred Heart's NP clinical coordinator early; any program-level filing is Sacred Heart's responsibility, not yours.
I live near the California line. Can I train there?
California is one of the states where Sacred Heart's FNP and PMHNP disclosures read "No", and Oregon and Arizona are on the same list. Keep your search in Nevada or in a "Yes" neighbor such as Utah or Idaho, and put any cross-border idea to your academic advisor first. The California page explains what "No" means.
Does Nevada have a preceptor incentive for teaching NP students?
No Nevada incentive program for preceptors appeared in the state research. What you can offer a Nevada practice is structure: Sacred Heart's orientation and written course objectives, which line up with what the Board's practice decision expects schools to provide, and a student arriving fully cleared.
