Studying with Sacred Heart University from Idaho

As of September 2026, Sacred Heart University's licensure disclosures mark Idaho "Yes" on every FNP and PMHNP program, so a nurse in Boise, Idaho Falls or Coeur d'Alene can take the coursework online and log clinical hours at an Idaho practice. Idaho's entries all read "Yes" in the September 2026 version of Sacred Heart's table. The catalog makes checking your own state the student's job, so look at the row again before enrolling and before any move.

Idaho's policy on preceptor level
Idaho's Board of Nursing adopted education policy HP-BON-Education 1 in April 2024. Under it, a clinical preceptor in any nursing program holds a license matching, or exceeding, the one the student will earn. For an NP student, that points to an APRN or a physician.
Sacred Heart casts a wider net: its FNP list includes PAs, and its PMHNP inquiry form names licensed clinical social workers and mental health counselors. An Idaho APRN or physician clears both bars. Idaho's rules for visiting programs
Idaho has written no approval step for out-of-state schools to clear ahead of clinicals. Both Idaho Code 54-1406 and IDAPA rule 24.34.01.150 address programs delivered inside Idaho. For anything else, the Board's page steers schools located elsewhere to a licensing email run by DOPL, the state's professional licensing division.
Two provisions reach you directly. IDAPA rule 24.34.01.100.12.a says a matriculated student who holds Idaho RN authority (a license or a compact privilege) may work at the advanced practice level when that work belongs to the curriculum of an APRN program with national accreditation; Sacred Heart's master's and DNP programs hold CCNE accreditation through June 30, 2030. Idaho Code 54-1412 adds a separate exemption for student work incident to formal instruction.
Boise, the panhandle and eastern Idaho
AANP lists Idaho as a full-practice state. The Boise City metro holds roughly 864,000 residents by the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate, well ahead of Coeur d'Alene (about 192,000), Idaho Falls (174,000) and Twin Falls (124,000). Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene, St. Luke's and Saint Alphonsus are systems Idaho NP students tend to approach; none of them is a site set aside for Sacred Heart.
Mind the borders. Sacred Heart's table says "No" for Oregon on both NP families and "No" for Washington on the PMHNP programs, so a practice over either line is no easy substitute. Read our Washington and Oregon guides first.
License, then the trips to Connecticut
Sacred Heart's guide wants your RN license active and unencumbered in whatever state hosts your clinical hours. Idaho's compact membership dates from January 19, 2018; a multistate card issued by Idaho, or by another member state where you live, reaches Idaho clinics. The APRN Compact is not yet in force. The online FAQ puts two MSN FNP competency residencies in Fairfield, during NU 552 and in NU 621; the catalog speaks of a yearly daylong residency, and the certificates list one a year. From Idaho each one is a long trip, so plan clinical days around it. See residencies.

Could a PA supervise my Sacred Heart FNP hours in Idaho?
Sacred Heart's FNP criteria accept physician assistants. Idaho's 2024 education policy, however, expects the preceptor's license to match or exceed the one an NP student will earn, and a PA license may not pass that test. Settle it with your academic advisor before investing in a PA lead.
Do I need a separate Idaho RN license for clinicals in Boise?
Only when your license is a single-state one from elsewhere. Since 2018, any multistate license issued by a compact member reaches Idaho sites. The license you upload to your Health Account should be the one covering the state where you train.
I live near the Washington line. Can I do PMHNP hours at a Washington practice?
As of September 2026 Sacred Heart's table marks Washington "No" for its PMHNP programs while keeping "Yes" for FNP. Ask Sacred Heart before contacting a Washington practice, and keep Idaho sites first on your list.
Does Idaho's Board of Nursing approve Sacred Heart before my rotation starts?
No Idaho rule requiring that turned up. The approval rules cover programs offered inside Idaho, and schools based elsewhere are pointed to a DOPL licensing email with questions. Your approvals come from Sacred Heart itself: the academic advisor, the NP clinical coordinator and a signed affiliation agreement.
