Studying with Sacred Heart University from Alaska
Sacred Heart University's September 2026 disclosures answer "Yes" for Alaska on every FNP and PMHNP program, so an Anchorage or Fairbanks nurse can enroll online and train at home. Alaska then asks two things of you personally: a preceptorship registration with its Board of Nursing, and an RN license the state issues itself, since Alaska stays outside the compact.

Alaska's row in the disclosures
Every NP program Sacred Heart offers reads "Yes" for Alaska as of September 2026, and the Clinical Nurse Leader track is "Yes" nationwide. Sacred Heart reaches Alaska through NC-SARA, which it joined on January 11, 2017. Rows can change between catalog years and checking yours is your job, so reread it before enrolling.

Alaska registers the student, not the school
Where most boards deal with the program, Alaska's deals with you. Its FAQ directs APRN students toward a preceptorship application, and 12 AAC 44.460 governs the result: the APRN Preceptorship Registration, filed on form 08-4253. It is yours alone and says nothing about Sacred Heart as a program.

The Board describes its preceptor too: an APRN or physician whose license or practice privilege is current and clean, whose focus resembles yours, and who does the supervising, teaching and evaluating at the clinic.
No compact, so plan on an Alaska RN license
Alaska has never joined the Nurse Licensure Compact. Bills to join (House Bill 131, Senate Bill 124) sat pending during the 2025-2026 legislative session, the Board reports, and until one passes, a multistate card from another state does nothing here.
Sacred Heart's rule settles the rest. Alaska's registration is content with an RN license from anywhere, but Sacred Heart insists on an active, unencumbered license in the state of your clinical practice, and the Health Account asks for that state's RN license. For an Alaska clinic, that means an Alaska RN license, so apply early. The RN license guide has more.
Full practice, and a market centered on Anchorage
AANP rates Alaska full practice: NPs there work on their own authority, which makes an NP-owned clinic a legitimate place to ask. FNP students can add MDs, DOs and PAs to the list; PMHNP students look for a PMHNP or a psychiatry-certified physician. See preceptor requirements.
Anchorage's metro counts roughly 406,000 residents, over four times Fairbanks-College (94,000) and far beyond the Juneau area (32,000). Three Anchorage names come up first: Alaska Native Medical Center, the tribal system's hospital; Alaska Regional, an HCA Healthcare hospital; and Providence Alaska Medical Center, whose parent is Alaska's biggest hospital operator. Palmer has Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, and in Fairbanks, Foundation Health Partners runs Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Tanana Valley Clinic. Treat all of them as search targets only.
Getting to Fairfield from Alaska
The online MSN FNP brings you to Sacred Heart's campus in Fairfield, Connecticut, twice for competency residencies: during NU 552 and in NU 621, one to two days each per the online FAQ (the catalog calls it a yearly daylong residency). Do Sacred Heart NP students in Alaska register with the Board of Nursing themselves?
Yes. Alaska's Board expects APRN students of programs based elsewhere to file form 08-4253, the APRN Preceptorship Registration. You supply proof of enrollment, an RN license in good standing and the preceptorship agreement among Sacred Heart, the facility, you and your preceptor.
Will a multistate license from another state work for Alaska clinicals?
No. Because Alaska never entered the compact, multistate status stops at its border, and Sacred Heart wants an RN license from the state hosting your clinicals. Get an Alaska RN license and load it into your Health Account before clearance.
What if my Sacred Heart clinicals run longer than 12 months?
The registration expires after a year at most, sooner if your preceptorship wraps up first, and the Board permits a single renewal. FNP clinicals run through 16-week courses from NU 561 to NU 621, so lay your course calendar beside the registration date and renew before it lapses.
Can an Alaska physician precept a Sacred Heart FNP student?
Yes, when Sacred Heart's criteria are met: an MD or DO licensed in Alaska, board certified, and at least one year into primary care practice. Alaska's registration rule also accepts a physician preceptor whose practice focus is comparable to yours. PMHNP students need a psychiatry-certified physician or a PMHNP.
