Sacred Heart's student systems, and where each clinical task lives
Sacred Heart University runs student business through the MySHU portal, SHU email in Outlook, Blackboard Ultra and Student Planning & Advising (SPA). Clinical work reaches further: forms sit in a Blackboard organization for your track, hours and evaluations in E*Value, compliance in the Health Account. The map below shows which system holds which task.
Paperwork across five systems?
We deliver a preceptor plus the documents Sacred Heart's approvals ask for, ready for you to submit.

Where each clinical task lives
A single Sacred Heart rotation touches several systems, each with one job. Knowing which one holds what saves a search through all of them when a deadline is close.
| Clinical task | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Placement process details and clinical forms | Your track's clinical requirements organization in Blackboard |
| Online NP preceptor documents for final approval | The NPapprovalrequest@sacredheart.edu program mailbox |
| Contract Request Form | A web form on the College of Nursing Forms page (see the CRF guide) |
| Compliance documents, including proof of the CHA Health & Safety Test | The Health Account |
| Cleared for Clinical email and notices from the clinical team | SHU email (Outlook) |
| Clinical logs, case logs, evaluations and agreements | E*Value |
| Registering for the clinical course; grades | SPA |
| Plan of study and advising notes | eSTAR |
| Coursework and course announcements | The Blackboard Ultra course site |
| University immunization record | The Student Health Portal |
| Accommodations | The Office of Student Accessibility portal |
| Technical problems with any of the above | The PioTech Center |
MySHU, the front door
MySHU, at myshu.sacredheart.edu, is Sacred Heart's single sign-on portal. You reach it with your full SHU email address, and its landing page carries cards for Blackboard, SPA, Outlook, the Health Portal and the SHU Card. Sacred Heart sums up its purpose as a place to "launch favorite services like email, Blackboard and SPA."
From the portal, students check their class schedule, grades, add/drop and academic holds, contact their advisor, apply for graduation and reach library resources. The graduate student-life page adds a detail that trips up new students: the portal is powered by Blackboard, but classes themselves run in Blackboard Ultra.
The SHU ID is a 9-digit number. The SHU Account is also called the University or Network Account, and the SHU username is the part of your email address before the @. Multifactor authentication runs through Microsoft Authenticator, and GlobalProtect VPN opens network-only services, such as the library, from off campus.
SHU email carries the clinical news
SHU email runs on Outlook and Office 365. Student addresses end in @mail.sacredheart.edu, while faculty and staff use @sacredheart.edu. The graduate catalog directs official communication to your University mailbox, and your network account has to be activated before any of it arrives.
The MSN and Post-MSN Certificate guide is more specific. It names SHU email as the official method of communication, asks you to check it every 48 hours and expects replies to clinical or health-compliance messages within 48 to 72 hours. The Clinical Contract & Compliance Coordinator writes there only if your site's affiliation agreement runs into a problem, and the Cleared for Clinical email lands in the same inbox.
Keep your placement correspondence with Sacred Heart on your SHU address, so every thread sits where the college expects to find it.
Blackboard Ultra and the clinical requirements organizations
Blackboard, delivered as Blackboard Ultra, is what Sacred Heart calls "the portal to your individual classes." You open it from MySHU through Quick Links, and online students get a Blackboard orientation before their program begins. Help comes from blackboard@sacredheart.edu or a Blackboard Support Request.
Nursing also uses Blackboard Organizations, non-course sites that hold clinical forms and requirements. Each group of tracks has its own:
- FNP Online Clinical Requirements: the online MSN FNP and the post-master's FNP certificate.
- Grad Cert: Psych Mental Hlth Nurse Prac Clinical Requirements: the MSN PMHNP and the post-master's PMHNP certificate.
- Graduate Nursing Requirements: the MSN Nursing Education, NMEL and CNL tracks.
- FNP/DNP Clinical Placement Organization, within Clinical Compliance: health forms for the hybrid FNP/DNP.
The MSN guide sends FNP students to their organization for the detailed placement process and every form, and the non-NP Contract Request Form is posted in the Graduate Nursing organization as well as on the Sacred Heart site.
SPA, Colleague and eSTAR
Student Planning & Advising (SPA) is Sacred Heart's web application on top of Colleague, the student information system. In SPA you plan courses, register, add and drop, follow grades and progress, pull an unofficial transcript and check each section's modality: In-Person, Online, Hybrid (half or more of meetings in person) or Hybrid Limited (under half in person, with at least one campus meeting).
Clinical registration in SPA waits on approvals made elsewhere. The MSN guide allows registration for a clinical course only after your academic advisor approves the site and preceptor and the MSN Online NP Programs Clinical Coordinator completes the documentation; the registration and modules guide covers the windows. Holds can block registration too, and Sacred Heart names a Health Services immunization requirement among them.
eSTAR is the advising record. Student Services Coordinators and advisors keep your initial Plan of Study there, with its approval and notes from advising appointments. Graduation applications go through SPA at least one semester before you finish, and degrees are conferred in May, August and December.
E*Value, the Health Account and the Student Health Portal
Two clinical systems sit outside the university's general tools. E*Value, which you enter with your SHU username, holds clinical logs, case logs, evaluations, the student-preceptor agreement and preceptor letters of agreement, and late required documents mean an F in clinical; the E*Value guide walks through it.
The Health Account tracks clinical compliance: the physical exam, TB test, CPR, the RN license for your clinical state, liability insurance, the flu vaccine by November 1 and the Protecting Youth certificate. The graduate guides leave the vendor unnamed; the Health Account guide covers due dates by program.
Keep the Health Account separate in your mind from the Student Health Portal at myhealth.sacredheart.edu, a Point 'N Click record system Health Services uses for student immunizations. Health Services says program compliance companies do not exempt students from forms the State of Connecticut requires, but it does not say whether fully online students must upload them, so ask Health Services or your advisor.
Help desks: PioTech, the library and accessibility
The PioTech Center is "IT's combined Help Desk and Call Center." Reach it at techsupport@sacredheart.edu, through a Self-Service Portal ticket, by chatbot or at walk-in desks on the Park Avenue campus, West Campus, the Center for Healthcare Education, the Martire Center and Stamford's Tandet Center. Its response goal is one to two business days, so report a system problem well ahead of any clinical due date.
The library's Online Student Resources guide includes an Online Nursing Guide, databases, digitally delivered interlibrary loan and Ask a Librarian, with reference@sacredheart.edu for reference help. The Center for Teaching and Learning offers tutoring through the PASS Portal and an Online Writing Lab.
The Office of Student Accessibility (OSA) serves graduate students through an online intake form with documentation, a meeting with OSA staff, then self-registration at the start of each semester, summer session or winter intersession, after which accommodation letters go to professors electronically. Write to accessibility@sacredheart.edu with questions. The public pages do not describe how accommodations extend to clinical sites or residencies, so raise those settings with OSA and your advisor directly.
Where our work meets these systems
Our service plugs into Sacred Heart's systems at the points where students lose the most time. We deliver the preceptor's CV, license and board certification ready for the NP approval mailbox, the contracting contact at the site that your Contract Request Form asks for, and a preceptor already briefed on completing E*Value evaluations on schedule, so the paperwork inside E*Value keeps pace with your hours.
You keep full control of your accounts and submissions, and what you send is complete the first time. We also track the dates your course calendar and week-10 checkpoint set, and if a preceptor steps away mid-course we begin the replacement search at once. Name your program and next clinical course in the form on this page to start, or read how it works for the full service.
Questions Sacred Heart students ask
What is SPA at Sacred Heart University?
SPA, short for Student Planning & Advising, is the web application Sacred Heart students use to work with their records in Colleague, the student information system. You plan and register for courses, add and drop, check grades and degree progress, view an unofficial transcript and see whether a section meets in person, online or in a hybrid format. It opens from MySHU.
Where are Sacred Heart's FNP clinical forms?
In the FNP Online Clinical Requirements organization on Blackboard, which serves the online MSN FNP and the post-master's FNP certificate. The MSN guide says that organization reviews the placement process in detail and holds the forms. PMHNP students use the psychiatric-mental health organization, and CNL, NMEL and Nursing Education students use Graduate Nursing Requirements.
What is eSTAR used for in Sacred Heart nursing?
eSTAR is where Student Services Coordinators and academic advisors record your initial Plan of Study, its approval and summaries of advising appointments. The plan of study sets which course falls in which term, which is why it is the document to hold beside any preceptor search for an upcoming clinical course.
Is the Health Account the same as the Student Health Portal?
No. The Health Account is the clinical compliance tracker nursing students use for items such as the physical exam, TB test, CPR and liability insurance. The Student Health Portal at myhealth.sacredheart.edu is Health Services' immunization record for the whole university. Sacred Heart treats them as separate requirements, so ask your advisor which apply to you.
How do I get help with Blackboard or other Sacred Heart systems?
For Blackboard, write to blackboard@sacredheart.edu or file a Blackboard Support Request. For anything else, contact the PioTech Center at techsupport@sacredheart.edu or through a Self-Service Portal ticket; it aims to respond within one to two business days. Report a problem as soon as it appears, well before any clinical due date it could affect.
